Overview

NV Buildings is a dominant residential scheme within Salford Quays, west of Manchester City Centre. Providing high quality living was a fundamental force behind the development, with strongly detailed architecture the scheme had to fit within the existing vernacular of the Quays.

Brief

The scheme brief was to deliver an external works scheme that provided a strong landscape element within the development, providing a secure site perimeter, new access the dock frontage and plans for its reinstatement as a new dockside walkway.

Approach

Working closely with the design team and client, the scheme was designed to maximise the areas of soft landscape whist maintaining the parking demands for the three residential buildings. Historic details of the docks were obtained to ensure all work to the dockside was feasible, and embraced the heritage of the site.

Solution

A lush landscape scheme was created by minimising the impact on the scheme from the parking needs of the development. Traditional railings were used to secure the perimeter of the development accompanied by a perimeter hedge to enhance privacy. The internal landscape used strong architectural planting, including pleached tree planting defining the spaces between each of the residential blocks. New links were established to the regenerated Dockside walkway, improving access to the scheme and the adjacent areas of the docks.

Results

NV Buildings has become one of the most desirable residential developments within Salford Quays. The high quality landscape scheme has enhanced the bold architecture of the scheme, helping to define the identity of the development, and helped to deliver a highly successful project.
